Financial support during difficult times
New and newly eligible employees may elect coverage up to five times your annual base salary, to a maximum of $600,000, with no evidence of insurability (EOI) required. If you elect less than the maximum when you enroll, you may increase the amount by one time your base salary each year after that, also without EOI, until you reach the maximum.
You also don't need to provide EOI if you or your spouse enroll as a new employee or within 31 days of becoming eligible, when you increase coverage due to a family status change, such as marriage, or add dependent child coverage.
Please note: Base salary doesn't include overtime, stipends, car allowance or other supplemental pay.
If you enroll in supplemental life with a matching AD&D benefit amount for yourself, you can also purchase supplemental life with a matching AD&D benefit amount for your spouse and dependent child(ren).
Spouse coverage is available at one to three times your salary, equal to your coverage amount or $100,000, whichever is less. If your spouse also works for Aldine ISD, only one of you can be covered by supplemental or spouse life and AD&D.
Child life and AD&D options are available at $5,000, $10,000, $15,000 or $20,000 per child. A child may not be covered by more than one employee. Your cost for child life coverage is the same, no matter how many eligible children you insure.
Coverage amounts are multiplied and then rounded to the next higher $1,000. Your cost of coverage is based on your age on January 1 of the plan year, your salary at the time of enrollment and the level of coverage you select. The AD&D benefit is a matching benefit to the supplemental life, not a separate election.
For spouse life and AD&D, your cost of spouse coverage is based on your spouse’s age on January 1 of the plan year and the level of coverage you select. Spouse life and AD&D coverage cannot exceed the amount of your supplemental coverage. Spouse coverage is not effective until your supplemental coverage is approved. The AD&D benefit is a matching benefit to spouse life, not a separate election.
Your cost for child coverage is the same no matter how many eligible children you insure. Child coverage is not effective until your supplemental coverage is approved. The AD&D benefit is a matching benefit to child life, not a separate election.
When you enroll, you name who you want to receive your life insurance benefits payout if you die. You must update your beneficiary online or by calling the call center at 866-284-AISD (2473).
To file a claim, your beneficiary should call the Aldine ISD Benefits Department at 281-985-6226.
If there is no eligible beneficiary, or if you don’t name one, the death benefit is paid to the first one here that applies:
The insured’s lawful spouse, if living
The insured’s natural or legally adopted child(ren) in equal shares, if living
The insured’s parents in equal shares, if living
The insured’s brothers and sisters in equal shares, if living
If you’re not actively at work when you enroll for or increase coverage, your coverage doesn't take effect until you complete your first day at work.
If your spouse also works for the district, only one of you can be covered by supplemental life and AD&D or spouse life and AD&D. Only one employee can carry child life and AD&D coverage for your child(ren).
If you leave the district, your life and AD&D insurance is convertible. Other exclusions may apply. For more information about conversion, click here or call Minnesota Life’s portability and conversion customer service at 866-365-2374.
